How can I improve my profile?

Question of the week (14th March 2011). Au Pair Sandy created her profile on Aupair World. She uploaded nice photos of herself and wrote informative bilingual texts. However, she has still not been contacted by as many host families, as she had expected. "Is my age the possible reason?", she asks Aupair World. And: "How can I improve my profile?"

Dear Aupair World Team,

my name is Sandy. I created an au pair profile on your site. However, unfortunately I have not been contacted by as many families, as I had expected. Is my age the possible reason? I am already 26 years old. What is the maximum age for an au pair? Regardless of this point,  I made a great effort creating my profile. Could you please advise me on what the reason
might be for the difficulties I am facing?

Best regards

Sandy

Reply of our Support Team

Hello Sandy,

Thank you very much for your email. To answer your question: No, at the age of 26 you are not too old for your choice of destinations. Naturally,  we are more than happy to help you with your profile.

We had a look at your profile: it is quite appealing. You have uploaded nice photos of yourself and written informative bilingual texts – we quite liked it. However, there are still some things you can improve. In your EasyFind you will find all families, who match your requirements and abilities. In this context, the EasyFind will choose family profiles according to the criteria you indicated in your profile, i.e. the start date, length of stay, your language skills, the question of whether you possess a driving licence and the age of your host children.

We noticed a few things you can influence - maybe our suggestions will help you:

  • You are searching for a family for quite a short period (3-6 months). However, most families wish to employ an au pair, who can stay for a minimum of six or better twelve months.
  • You limited the age of your host children to 3-12 years.
  • You chose Australia and New Zealand, both of which are the preferred destinations of numerous au pairs. As you have no driving licence and wish to go abroad for a relatively short period, finding a matching host family will probably be difficult for you.
  • In some countries, such as Chile and Ecuador, there are only few host families.

The total of these factors can make it hard for you to receive applications of matching host families.

Our recommendation:

  • You should also get active. Send your application to matching host families.
  • Double-check, which search criteria you could change.
  • You should regularly (on daily basis) log into your profile. Thus, host families will see that you are actively searching.
  • If you wish, you can become a Premium Member. Thus, you can directly and personally contact your host family and families will see that you are interested. This increases your chances of finding a family.

I hope that our tips will help you. We wish you good luck on your further search.

Best regards
